Who is this course is suitable for?

Anyone who has contact with children. The How To Talk to Kids Course has been shown to be beneficial to parents, grandparents, teachers, nursery workers, and health visitors to name but a few


Are there any prerequisites to attending the Course ?

No formal pre-requisites are required, however participants are encouraged to have

What is the Course format?

The course is held in a group basis over a 5 week period. Each session will last 1 and half hours. The course includes a workbook which you are encouraged to complete. Group discussions are held to discuss the skills and ideas that are presented. Each week we will evaluate the skills learnt from the previous week and see the difference that it has made.


What topics will the course cover?

The overall goal of the How to talk so kids will Listen workshops is to give you practical, effective methods of communication that will make your relationship with children of all ages more rewarding and less stressful. You will learn how to:

Discipline without hurting or alienating Cope with your child's negative feelings Engage your child's willing co-operation Help your child develop a realistic and positive self image Create an atmosphere of love and respect Resolve conflicts peacefully

When and where are the courses held?

The course is held in Purley and Sanderstead. Please email us for further details and up and coming dates. We usually run courses during the school term time.


How much is the course ?

The full cost of the course is £75 includes a course manual. Parishoners of St Gertrudes and St John the Baptist Churches, and parents of Margeret Roper School and Regina Coeli School are entitled to a discounted cost of £40 for the course.

Participants are also encouraged to buy the accompanying book "How to Talk to Kids so that Kids wil Listen" and "Liberated Parents, Liberated Children". These books however are not mandatory requirements for the workshops, although they do complement each other very well. You are welcome to buy these books directly from us when you attend the workshop, or you can order them from any bookstores.


What happens if I miss a weekly session?

No problem. If you miss a session you are welcome to attend the same session when we run a new workshop again. Please speak to us or check this website for future course dates where you can catch up on a missed session.


Do I have to discuss any personal issues with my family to the group?

What you decide to discuss with the workshop group is entirely up to you. The purpose of the worshops is to discuss the course material and fictional case studies. Participants can discuss each week how the skills that they have learnt have worked within their family. This of course is at entirely your discretion,. Anything that is discussed will be confidential.
